I've been drinking lots of Acai juices lately because of it's potent anti-oxidant effect (and it's pretty tasty). I've heard from a few sources about a new (well, new to me) "super fruit" called
Cupuacu. Apparently NASA is even interested in this fruit because of it's powerful anti-oxidant effect. They have been feeding it to astronauts to help prevent the radiation damage they are exposed to in space. Anyone drinking/eating this stuff? I wonder what it tastes like?
A few sites I've stumbled upon in my travels - some with pretty interesting info... I haven't been able to find any Cupuacu juice in my local stores but I've seen a few online.

I've been drinking Cupuacu juice for a couple months now and I'm feeling pretty good. I've noticed an increase in energy and motivation to get things done (even during dreary winter time in Vancouver BC). I've also been losing a few pounds, maybe from the increased energy or ??
i tried this is brazil and it was prepared into a smoothie for me. i thought it was pineapple and chocolate flavor very interesting and full flavor. i only started to hear the benefits of this fruit and am curious to see if there is anyway to get it fresh or even frozen here in the united states. I suppose noone has attemted to market to the actual fruit here but i am seeing lots of cremes and butter and other forms so i will try continue to explore and share my experiences.

I have been researching this for a while now. I was eating cacao beans, cacao powder, etc in my food for it's extremely high ORAC values, although after a few months I realized it was quite addicting, to the point that I didn't feel well when I didn't eat it (I was eating it every single day, more and more every week).
Cacao is a great superfood, although I would not suggest eating it every day or even every few days. Perhaps just "once in a while", it is a great stimulant without the "caffeine jitters", in my opinion. It is very healthy, in moderation.
Now Cupuacu is in the same family as cacao, but it is not addicting like cacao is. Cupuacu is a more health friendly version of cacao. I have been wanting to try this for quite some time, but I haven't had any luck finding it in any local stores. I could probably order some online, but I would rather get it in a local health food mart on my EBT card, rather than pay with cash.
If anyone sees any cupuacu related food items in any stores, please post the information in this thread so we can request it in our local stores. I see no reason why our health food marts can't sell this as every health food market in my city has cacao beans. Of course they would sell the more addictive product, and not the health friendly cousin of cacao... Perhaps I can find some ordering information online and give this to my health food mart and see if they can sell it then? Thank you guys for your information!
