RE: What is the orac of green tea?
The ORAC value will depend on how and when the tea was processed. One cannot say 'green tea has an ORAC value of x'.
A specific production line with a specific batch of raw green tea will result in a specific ORAC value that is only applicable to that batch at that time. This is where many supplement sellers are fooling you: they will launch "acai-berrie product nr. xxx" and refer to the 'excellent ORAC value' of acai berries. But this is deceiving: their product will 100% sure have a completely different ORAC value than the acai berries tested by the USDA for their annual update/publications. These supplement sellers are trying to save $ 275 by not having their specific product analysed. And most consumers know very little about the subject matter, so they will just go and buy it. Brunswick Labs in the US now introduced an annual subscription which is needed for companies if they want to carry the stamp 'Brunswick ORAC supervised' (or something similar to that) on their products and website. Brunswick will analyse your product twice a year and confirm that way there is a consistent quality. The underlying idea is the same as what I just said: every time you have a product analysed you only have a snapshot value. The next batch of that product can be very different. Also read this: http://www.nutraceuticalsworld.com/contents/view/31628 http://www.oriveda.com - The worlds most potent medicinal mushroom extracts. Our Chaga extract has the highest ORAC-rating (146,700 TE units p/100grams) ever found in a Chaga product. Ask for our Brunswick ORAC report! |

RE: What is the orac of green tea?
The best green tea with the highest orac value is Lipton Linea. It has twice catechins than the other commercial green teas.. I make every afternoon a tea with 3 tea bags of these.. It's a bit strong, but it has more than 700mg of catechins (to have the results of catechins in your life you should get 500mg of them every day, so 3 tea bags is more than enough)..
Also I drink my cocoa EVERY morning for years, made with water, 1 full tablespoon (30gr) of pure cocoa 20-22% fat (with lower fat means that is processed with the dutch method and has less antioxidants) and some sucralose (natural no-calorie sweetener).. Cocoa is a GREAT source of polyphenols, one of them is catechins. The drink I make has approximately 16700 ORAC!! At night I prefer a strong Sage tea or an instant decaf coffee (always NO milk) made with one full tablespoon of decaf coffee! It has the same antioxidants (23-27%) with the regular coffee, but no caffeine.. |
